More efforts needed to close STEM gender gap at tertiary level – officials

Rwanda has made progress in advancing the participation of women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, particularly within primary and secondary education. However, officials and experts say that further efforts are necessary to bridge the gender gap in tertiary education and research. Data from the Ministry of Education’s Statistical Yearbook for the academic year 2021/2022 indicates that the percentage of female students enrolled in STEM fields is 57.4 per cent of the total student population, while their male counterparts account for 42.5 per cent of students.…
