Rwanda’s Cycling Team Wins Gold at African Championships in Eldoret, Kenya


The Rwandan National Cycling Team clinched the gold medal in the mixed team time trial event at the African Cycling Championships, held in Eldoret, Kenya. The event took place on Thursday, October 10, 2024, marking the second day of the championship.

The time trial involved six participating countries, each with a mixed team comprising three men and three women. Rwanda’s winning team included cyclists Mugisha Moïse, Ingabire Diane, Mukashema Josiane, Nzayisenga Valentine, Masengesho Vainqueur, and Tuyizere Étienne. They completed the 44.8-kilometer race in 1 hour and 6 seconds, finishing 39 seconds ahead of Eritrea and 1 minute and 3 seconds ahead of Ethiopia.

Uganda took fourth place, trailing by 4 minutes and 12 seconds, while Morocco placed fifth with a gap of 4 minutes and 50 seconds. Host nation Kenya finished sixth, 5 minutes and 6 seconds behind Rwanda.

The African Championships will continue on Friday with junior races, where girls will cover 66.1 kilometers, and boys will compete over 99.9 kilometers. Rwanda will be represented in these categories by Iragena Charlotte, Umutoni Sandrine, Nshimiyimana Phocas, Nshutiraguma Kevin, Ntirenganya Moïse, and Ufitimana Shadracke.
